ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A barn at Friendship Road in Gainesville caught fire around 10:00 a.m. Sunday, killing two pigs and two quail as crews saved 20 animals while the fire marshal investigates the cause.  AccessWDUN
  • Hall County Fire Rescue responded about 10:00 a.m. Sunday to a barn fire on Friendship Road, saving 20 animals (though two pigs and two quail died) as crews controlled the blaze.  97.5 Glory

CULTURE NEWS

  • Newton Florist Club is finalizing plans for King Week observance in Gainesville with a King Holiday March on Jan. 17 and a King Observance Program on Jan. 19, following pre-events from Jan. 12 to 17. The club seeks volunteers (call 770.718.1343 or email [email protected]).  97.5 Glory

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Gainesville dropped to $2.56 a gallon today from $2.63 last week, according to AAA. State averages fell by a nickel while national prices moved from $2.85 to $2.81.  97.5 Glory

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local officials will launch an initiative to tackle homelessness in Gainesville; the program will expand access to housing and support services (details are expected soon).  WSB-TV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Gainesville approved nearly $50 million in building permits for residential and commercial projects as 2025 ended — including permits for 62 new single-family homes, remodeling, 26 commercial projects and one industrial development, plus electrical, plumbing and HVAC work.  97.5 Glory
