  • The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce will honor winners of the 2026 Arbor Day Student Art and Essay Contest at the Annual Arbor Day Celebration on Friday, Feb. 20 at 10 a.m. at Elachee Nature Science Center. The event includes student recognition and a joint proclamation with Tree City USA.  97.5 Glory

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce Beautification Committee and the Georgia Forestry Service will honor winners of the 2026 Arbor Day Student Art and Essay Contest next month in Gainesville. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials in North Georgia report rising residential fires during fire watch season and urge residents to keep heaters three feet from flammable items and routinely test smoke alarms (as recommended by Hall, White, and Gwinnett fire officials). Residents are advised to follow these safety tips to prevent home fires.  AccessWDUN
  • The City of Gainesville reported 160 more building permits last year than in 2024, including 57 new permits for single family homes (393 vs. 336) and changes in apartment and commercial projects (4 vs. 12 and 33 vs. 42, respectively), according to its Building Inspection Department.  97.5 Glory

HEALTH NEWS

  • Gainesville neurosurgeons Dr. Betsey Grunch, known as Ladyspinedoc on social media, and Dr. Karl (Kip) Schultz announced a new private practice that will take patients in February. The practice is located at 601 Broad St SE Suite B and both doctors are longtime residents.  AccessWDUN

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation is offering grants to every Georgia high school to start or support girls flag football teams. The program, which began as a 2018 pilot and later expanded, included teams from over 300 schools and 8,500 players last season (local officials expect further growth).  WSB-TV
