  • The Gainesville Jaycees are accepting nominations for their annual Young Man and Young Woman of the Year awards for residents 40 or younger with outstanding community service. Nominees must have lived in Hall County in 2025 and complete the online form by Jan. 31.  AccessWDUN

  • Tadmore Elementary celebrated its 100th anniversary on Friday, Jan. 23 with an evening of games, food and memories to honor a century of community tradition.  AccessWDUN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tree crews gathered Saturday, Jan. 24, along Jesse Jewell in Gainesville as Winter Storm Fern nears + residents are urged to monitor local weather updates.  The Gainesville Times
  • The National Weather Service warns that a freezing rain event expected this weekend will coat trees and power lines with up to 1/2 inch ice in Gainesville and northeast Georgia (pine trees are more likely to fall than oaks). Local residents should prepare for hazardous roads and possible outages.  97.5 Glory

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper warned Friday that kerosene bought on or after Jan. 17 from Jasmine Petroleum Inc. on Price Road should not be used in heaters or lamps.  The Gainesville Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Gainesville's Lady Red Elephants won back-to-back matches in the consolation bracket at the Division I Girls State Wrestling meet on Jan. 15. Alicia Rogers (a standout for the team) helped secure the win.  The Gainesville Times
  • North Hall's Gunner Spain set a school record by scoring 47 points in a win over White County on Jan. 21 in Gainesville, marking a season highlight.  The Gainesville Times
  • Cherokee Bluff swept Monroe Area in the 8-3A game on Jan. 23 in Flowery Branch; Jordan Hayes (3) made a strong play. The team will return to action against West Hall on Tuesday.  The Gainesville Times
  • The top-ranked Gainesville boys basketball team beat scrappy Lanier at Sugar Hill on Jan. 23, keeping its unbeaten record. The team celebrated a strong performance in a local matchup.  The Gainesville Times
