  • Nonprofit organizations in Hall County will share a $24k portion of $81,320 awarded by the Jackson EMC Foundation Board on January 2026. Groups like Good News at Noon, Bigger Vision of Athens, Latin American Association + My Sisters Place will use the funds to support community programs.  97.5 Glory

ECONOMY NEWS

  • In December, Hall County first-time unemployment claims jumped to a triple-digit increase (111.4% higher than November and 26.1% more than last December) while statewide claims rose by 9,932 to 26,651, according to the state labor department.  97.5 Glory
  • Gas prices in Gainesville rose to $2.70 per gallon today—nine cents higher than last week—and statewide prices increased by six cents, with AAA reporting the national average climbed to $2.86. This uptick highlights the recent trend in fuel costs.  97.5 Glory

  • Three Gainesville Housing resident students were accepted to Lanier Technical College through the BRIDGE Program, sponsored by the Gainesville Housing Authority. Two students will have their tuition fully covered for Electrical Training & Automotive Collision Repair, while another studies Cosmetology.  AccessWDUN

  • Early Sunday, freezing rain and sleet fell across Hall County as Winter Storm Fern continued to impact the area. A GDOT plow truck was seen on Highway 53 on Saturday, signaling ongoing efforts to keep roads clear.  The Gainesville Times
  • Forecasters warn the worst of an ice storm will hit Hall County — with conditions expected to worsen — after more than an inch of ice, sleet and snow covered Green Street in Gainesville on Jan. 25.  The Gainesville Times
