CULTURE NEWS

  • North Georgia Wildlife + Safari Park in Cleveland was named one of the top 10 safari parks in the nation by USA Today; voting remains open for the poll.  The Gainesville Times
  • David Wall (89) and his wife Holly celebrated Valentine's Day on Friday, Feb. 13 at New Horizons Limestone in Gainesville. David baked a carrot cake and hid a small white box with daffodils in a high greenhouse shelf amid rows of blooming plants.  The Gainesville Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The 2nd annual Shane Clark Memorial Run 5K — honoring the late coach — will take place on Saturday, March 21 at Midland Greenway in Gainesville to provide scholarships for high school athletes. Registration costs $35 now and will increase after March 8 with a Phantom option available.  AccessWDUN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Chestatee swept North Hall on Feb. 13 in Gainesville to wrap up its high school basketball regular season. Sophomore Ali Jae Bull scored 31 points (with Lexie Moss’s key rebounds) to lead the Lady War Eagles.  The Gainesville Times
  • Lanier Christian girls lost in the GAPPS state quarterfinals — Cherokee Bluff girls wrapped up the regular season with a dominant win over West Hall in recent games.  The Gainesville Times
  • East Hall boys basketball won over Monroe Area on Feb. 13 to clinch the No. 2 seed for the Region 8-3A tournament next week & the Lady Vikings also scored a win on Friday.  The Gainesville Times
  • Gainesville’s Lady Red Elephants beat Roswell in the Region 7-5A tournament quarterfinals and advance to Tuesday, Feb. 18 semifinals, earning a spot in the state tournament.  The Gainesville Times
  • Two wrestlers from Hall qualified for the state semifinals in the girls all-classification event and will compete at 9 a.m. Saturday.  The Gainesville Times
  • Cherokee Bluff and East Hall earned wins in their baseball games today while North Hall lost to East Forsyth.  The Gainesville Times
