- ➤ A Gainesville-based shelter from the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia (HSNEGA) is providing emergency housing and treatment for 15 vulnerable cats rescued during a large-scale hoarding intervention in Stephens County, where deputies recovered 57 cats from a Toccoa home. The shelter said it is treating the cats for respiratory issues and pneumonia as part of its statewide animal welfare effort. WSB-TV

- ➤ Gainesville City Schools named Shea Ray as the new assistant superintendent for Teaching and Learning, and she will start in July to support better teaching practices at local schools. The Gainesville Times
- ➤ Thirteen Lanier Tech students have been named Tim McDonald Scholars for the Spring semester to receive tuition-based scholarships funded by the Ivester Foundation. The awards are based on grade point average, academic progress, and county residency. The Gainesville Times

- ➤ Gainesville City Council approved on Tuesday, Feb. 17 a rezoning for Wall Street Apartments, a mixed-income development on 4.5 acres east of downtown featuring 65 units for adults 55 and older. Phase one will finish in Sept. 2027, with full completion expected in Sept. 2028. AccessWDUN
