COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local organizer Tyler Neff will hold the March for Truth on March 15 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Downtown Gainesville Square to shed light on files related to Jeffrey Epstein — the march will pause for 30-45 minutes at the white bridge on Jesse Jewell Parkway.  AccessWDUN

  • Haydee’s Cafe & Cantina has permanently closed its Gainesville location on Dawsonville Highway.  The Gainesville Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lupita Mexican Taqueria on Harmony Church Road received a failing grade of 57 on its routine health inspection Tuesday, March 3, and officials noted immediate improvements are needed + a follow-up review is planned.  The Gainesville Times

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Antebellum in Flowery Branch has been named Georgia’s Best Small Town Restaurant and is set in a 1890s building known for farm-to-table dishes and live music. The venue also boasts creative flavors and recognized awards + continues to enhance its North Georgia reputation.  97.5 Glory

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Gainesville issued 36 permits last month for new single-family homes (costing $9.3 million), 9 for home repairs (worth $451,000), and 11 for commercial projects (2 for new construction at $235,000 and 9 for remodels at $916,000) according to the February building report.  97.5 Glory
  • Construction is well underway on a 229-home lakefront subdivision along McEver Road that was approved by City Council in 2024 for residents 55 and older. The new community sits near Lake Lanier (a local favorite) and promises modern living with lake access.  The Gainesville Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • At Cherokee Bluff, senior guard Claire Carlson delivered 22.5 points (6.5 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 blocks, and 2.5 assists) as the Lady Bears won state tournament games over LaFayette and Ridgeland. Her performance shows her strong all-around play.  The Gainesville Times
  • East Hall's Cooper Barton (5-7 sophomore) was named Boys Player of the Week after hitting six 3-pointers and scoring 20 points to push his team to the state quarterfinals on Feb. 28.  The Gainesville Times
  • Sadie Leek delivered a record performance as Lakeview Academy beat Athens Christian Tuesday in a Hall County soccer match (Gainesville's girls also posted big wins).  The Gainesville Times
  • Local high school basketball playoffs continue in Hall County as Cherokee Bluff girls need three wins to try to repeat as state champions while boys teams from Gainesville and East Hall remain in the race.  The Gainesville Times
  • In a high school quarterfinal game on Feb. 27, a clock issue led Cherokee Bluff’s Lady Bears to a controversial loss to Monroe in Flowery Branch — ending their 20-11 season and bid for back-to-back titles.  The Gainesville Times
  • North Hall beat Greater Atlanta Christian in its region opener on March 3 in Gainesville (Indiana signee Branson Crawford struck out 13 batters and hit a solo home run).  The Gainesville Times
