  • Simpson’s Trucking and Grading has opened new offices at 3566 Athens Highway in East Hall, about a mile north of the Jackson County line.  The Gainesville Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gainesville teacher Aerin Durkin was named Georgia Association for Gifted Children’s 2026 Teacher of the Year after being recognized for her excellence in gifted education at Gainesville City Schools. The award honors her outstanding contribution to teaching.  The Gainesville Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Forest Service will conduct controlled burns over the next three months in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, including nearly 700 acres in Habersham County. Fire crews will work in compartments in Jones and Chattooga counties (conditions permitting) to lower wildfire risks while smoke may be visible near Highway 23.  97.5 Glory

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers at the state capitol advanced a bill that would require insurance to cover out-of-network ambulance rides so patients never face costly bills; the measure now moves to the opposite chamber for final review.  WSB-TV

  • The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce presented its 2026 Healthy Hall Awards earlier this week to honor local healthcare professionals making a significant impact on health and wellness.
