  • Albert Hardy was a Gainesville man who published the Gainesville News weekly paper from 1897 until his death in 1953 while engaging in many civic activities. He combined journalism with public service—serving as an active community leader during his lifetime.  The Gainesville Times
  • State and local officials reopened the Positive Place Boys and Girls Club on Downey Boulevard this week as part of a community effort to offer a new 25,000-square-foot space for up to 450 youth. Parents can now register their children for summer camp as guests toured the facility.  97.5 Glory

ECONOMY NEWS

  • First-time unemployment insurance claims in Hall County rose by nine percent in January compared to December and were 0.3 percent higher than the previous year (February data was not immediately available) (as reported by 97.5 GLORY FM).  97.5 Glory

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Habersham County Commission will hold a public hearing Monday on plans for a new animal control facility and ask for comments on financing with a tax-exempt installment sale agreement. The board will also review an MOU with Hall, Banks and White counties — this agreement will allow emergency responders to use a common radio channel in joint emergencies.  97.5 Glory
