  • Gainesville police are asking for help to locate a 12-year-old girl who was last seen on March 19 at her home.  The Gainesville Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Labor reported that Gainesville’s unemployment rate increased to 2.8 percent in January (a three-tenths rise from December) while staying below the statewide average of 3.6 percent. The local labor force grew by 245 to 108,872, even as total jobs decreased by 1,700 from December.  AccessWDUN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Governor’s Office of Student Achievement published its annual list that names 17 low-performing public schools in Hall and Gainesville, making up more than one-third of the area's schools. West Hall High School and Fair Street International Academy—both among the lowest—were named on the list.  The Gainesville Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Drought conditions returned to Hall County and the immediate Gainesville area according to the U.S. Drought Monitor—while the overall drought coverage in Georgia dropped by one percent, Lake Lanier stayed at 1071.4.
