BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Inked Pig, a popular barbecue joint, left its Main Street location at 893 Main Street SW on Thursday, March 26, and owners noted the move sets the stage for new opportunities for the longtime Gainesville favorite.  The Gainesville Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Hall County Library System will celebrate being named the 2025 Georgia Public Library of the Year at 4:00 p.m. Monday at the downtown Gainesville branch, while other branches live-stream the ceremony and host their own festivities for residents.  97.5 Glory
  • Downtown Gainesville is set for the fourth annual Art Walk on April 16, offering free admission and 24 stops across the historic districts.  The Gainesville Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • NGMC announced its eighth residency class that brings the total to 232 resident physicians and increases capacity in specialties like General Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Emergency Medicine (including 18 cardiovascular fellows). The new physicians will begin work on July 1.  97.5 Glory
  • Gainesville City Schools' team Enota Multiple Intelligences Academy Team No. 2 won the Georgia Odyssey of the Mind State Tournament in Columbus and will compete at the world finals at Iowa State University at the end of May.  The Gainesville Times
  • Lanier Technical College and Brenau University have announced a new academic partnership to address Georgia's growing nursing shortage by providing local registered nurses a streamlined path to a bachelor's degree (this effort aims to bolster the state's health care workforce).  The Gainesville Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • With drought conditions worsening, the USFS and Smokey Bear urge residents to follow fire safety guidelines and avoid debris burning (as a multiagency team including Georgia Forestry Commission personnel educates the public on wildfire safety) until April 7.  97.5 Glory
  • According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, nearly all of Hall County is now rated extremely dry as only small areas near the north, southeast and west borders show less dryness. Lake Lanier fell 0.3 ft this week, reaching 1066.0 ft.  97.5 Glory

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • WDUN host Martha Zoller was honored on Mar. 25 on the State House floor for championing heart health after her Feb. 5 heart attack, with Representative Patty Marie Stinson praising her recovery as Zoller uses her platform to urge women to learn heart health signs.  AccessWDUN
  • Hall County now has over 226,568 residents, reflecting an 11.7% increase from 203,136 at the last census, according to a Census Bureau estimate released Thursday.  97.5 Glory

  • North Hall pitcher Jake Beard (15) has committed to play Division-III baseball after posting a 3-0 record for the fifth-ranked Trojans. He pitched in Gainesville on March 20, reinforcing a strong season on the mound.  The Gainesville Times
