BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Georgia Ports Authority is hiring for positions at Gainesville's new Inland Port (applications have been accepted for months) and the port is set to open on May 4.  97.5 Glory

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Smithgall Arts Center in Gainesville will host the 2026 Live at the Smithgall Summer Music Series in May (ranging from country-rock to jazz) with performances from Preston Cooper on May 2 and Joe Gransden on May 16. Gourmet food options will be available with pre-orders.  AccessWDUN

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce will host a job fair Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the civic center (over 60 companies will accept onsite applications).  97.5 Glory

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Seven Hall County high school students have been selected for the fully funded Governor's Honors Program at Georgia Southern University (June 14 to July 11). The summer residential program offers academic, social, and cultural enrichment to juniors and seniors.  AccessWDUN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Upper Chattahoochee River Soil and Water Conservation District accepts poster entries from students in grades 3-5 and photo entries from those aged 10 and up for four conservation categories (Conservation Practices, Close-Up Conservation, Conservation in Action, and Agriculture and Conservation Across Georgia), with submissions due by Friday, April 3.  AccessWDUN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Army Corps of Engineers inspected Lake Lanier at Little Ridge Park on Friday, March 27 (photo by Sophie Ralph) after finding water levels below normal for this time. The agency continues to monitor the situation for necessary measures.  The Gainesville Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Gainesville's senior Cohen Miller hit a walk-off, run-scoring single in the seventh inning on Mar. 20 at Ivey-Watson Field as the Red Elephants built an eight-game win streak against Seckinger.  The Gainesville Times
  • On March 19, the eighth-ranked Lady Bears won their sixth straight game in Flowery Branch as Notre Dame-bound forward Bristol Kersh reached a milestone during the match against West Hall.  The Gainesville Times
  • North Hall boys and Gainesville girls won the track and field county championships Saturday at Chestatee High + photos by Bill Murphy capture the event.  The Gainesville Times
  • The top-ranked Johnson boys beat Chestatee at Billy Ellis Memorial Stadium in Oakwood on March 27 — one win away from clinching the Region 6-3A championship.  The Gainesville Times
  • The East Hall boys lost to Oconee County on March 27 in a Region 8-3A soccer match and will need help to win the title. They can still clinch second place by winning next Tuesday at Monroe Area.  The Gainesville Times
  • North Hall's Jack Procter ended his season as a back-to-back champion after winning the 126-pound state title on Feb. 12 in Morrow.  The Gainesville Times
