ECONOMY NEWS

  • On Tuesday, AAA reported that a gallon of regular gas in the U.S. passed the $4 mark (the highest since August 2022) while Georgia stations saw prices at $3.62 and experts warn costs may rise further due to ongoing supply pressures.  WSB-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The state Senate passed a new literacy bill that will update reading instruction methods in Georgia schools. Gainesville districts are expected to introduce the revised programs soon (details pending).  WSB-TV
  • At Lanier Elementary (in Gainesville), teacher Ansley Smallwood uses her love of NASCAR to keep fifth-grade students engaged during class. Her creative methods are adding energy to the classroom and showing how real-life interests boost learning.  The Gainesville Times

  • Flowery Branch City Council will review a revised plan for 75 single-family homes (down from an earlier 116-townhome proposal) at its meeting tomorrow, April 2 in Flowery Branch.  The Gainesville Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lakeview Academy boys won the North Georgia championship on March 30 at Crystal Falls Golf Club in Dawsonville by taking an 11-stroke lead over Cambridge. Their strong performance carried the team to a celebrated win.  The Gainesville Times
  • North Hall released its 2026 football schedule, and the Trojans will open with a trip to Greater Atlanta Christian. The plan sets a clear path for the upcoming season and excites local fans.  The Gainesville Times
  • On Monday, the Red Elephants extended their win streak to nine games in Gainesville, and Lanier Christian also won a baseball match + local fans cheered the action.  The Gainesville Times
  • Hall County high school baseball is entering its home stretch this week as teams aim for region races, milestone chases + home run parades, with Gainesville's Cohen Miller celebrated for his homer on March 18 at Ivey-Watson Field.  The Gainesville Times
