  • A Gainesville man was arrested for aggravated assault after he allegedly threatened a man with a machete during a verbal dispute outside a residence on Highland Terrace Friday night, and authorities said 57 year old Santos Reyes Saenz faces felony charges for assault and possession of a knife while he remains on an immigration hold in Hall County Jail.  AccessWDUN
  • Authorities are searching for Yvette Mojica (16), a Gainesville girl who was last seen at her home on Monday, March 31, and they are asking residents to report any information that may help find her.  The Gainesville Times

  • Local organizers will join the national HANDS OFF! protest at Gainesville Square on Saturday from 1:00-2:00 to stand against attempts to take away democracy—using homemade signs and social media posts.   • On Tuesday, April 1, a federal judge ruled that Georgia's electronic voting system could continue to be used in a long-running lawsuit after voters failed to prove that system flaws stopped their ballots from counting—Georgia election officials say the system is secure—and lawmakers plan changes to boost oversight.  AccessWDUN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Publix Super Markets recalled select batches of ground beef from its Braselton store in The Vineyards Shopping Center at 2095 GA Hwy 211 due to potential foreign material in the products. The beef made on March 26 with a sell-by date of March 28 should be thrown away or returned for a refund — no other Publix items are affected.  WSB-TV
  • Yesterday, Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Braselton introduced ultra-minimally invasive spine surgery that offers less pain, smaller scars and faster recovery for patients with herniated discs, spinal stenosis, arthritis or osteoarthritis—using a high definition camera on a flexible tube and thin tools to perform the procedure through a pencil-width incision that spares back muscles and avoids bone removal.  AccessWDUN
