COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Habitat for Humanity of Hall County honored a longtime volunteer by naming a street after him during an appreciation event Monday, Apr. 13 at the University of North Georgia Gainesville; he helped build 29 homes in 12 years.  The Gainesville Times
  • A celebration of life service will be held for Rev. Jeremy Shoulta, senior pastor of First Baptist, who passed from cancer on April 12. The church invites community members to honor his legacy at the planned event.  The Gainesville Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • A local artist will repaint the iconic Good people of Gainesville mural + originally conceived in 2015 by two local men after the 1936 tornado as part of efforts to revitalize downtown Gainesville Square and honor local history.  The Gainesville Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A UNG student from Gainesville turned his internship at Greater Hall Chamber into a full-time marketing role this spring & a recent Lawrenceville graduate used his Forsyth County Chamber experience to pursue a master’s degree in marketing research.  97.5 Glory
  • The state Board of Regents approved a tuition increase for two-year UNG students on Tuesday, raising fees from $2,145 to $2,535 per semester. Brenau University announced on Monday the naming of its Jacobs College of Business and Media to honor Gainesville native John W. Jacobs Jr.—a longtime supporter of local education.  97.5 Glory
  • Hall County Schools hosted its 5th annual Tool Expo on April 15 at the Chicopee Woods Agricultural Center, where students from North Georgia high schools met construction industry representatives and explored career paths in the trades. Lanier College and Career Academy sponsored the event.  The Gainesville Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials announced that a paid parking plan will start in May charging $4 per hour after the third hour on select streets, and residents (led by business owner Justin Holland) have launched a petition over concerns the new program will hurt local businesses.  WSB-TV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • An Atlanta developer plans to build 168 homes off Friendship Road in South Hall and is seeking to remove a requirement that blocks the project. The change may clear the path for construction soon.  The Gainesville Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Gainesville High graduate Jeremiah Telander intercepted a pass in a 2025 game in Atlanta and his success at Tennessee is growing as he is set to expand his leadership role this season + local fans expect him to make an impact on the Volunteers.  The Gainesville Times
  • Gainesville's region champion baseball team opened its series against Johns Creek with a walk-off win at Ivey-Watson Field on April 14 — coach Chan Brown was honored after the game for reaching 600 victories.  The Gainesville Times
  • North Hall held off Chestatee today in a close baseball game. Flowery Branch recorded five doubles as it won against Walnut Grove.  The Gainesville Times
