  • A faith-based residential recovery program for women is proposed to establish a group home in West Hall (outlined in Hall County planning documents) that aims to provide supportive housing. Details on timing and service start have yet to be confirmed.  The Gainesville Times

  • GreenPal (a national lawn care app billed as the Uber of lawn care) has launched in Gainesville today. Residents can now use the app to schedule local lawn care services.  The Gainesville Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Solara Spring Fest returns to the UNG campus, offering Hawaiian-style fun, food (and entertainment) to connect UNG students and locals. The event will help build community ties, inviting all to join in the festivities.  The Gainesville Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local legislators, experts and community members met at the Boathouse to discuss Lake Lanier’s taste and odor issues and treatment options (including renting ultrasound units) while planning a follow-up meeting in the fall to review progress.  AccessWDUN
  • US Drought Monitor data shows that Code Red + Code Brown conditions are expanding across Georgia, with Hall County already deep in severe drought and only a few counties from Augusta to Macon to LaGrange remaining less affected; Lake Lanier stays five feet below normal this week.  97.5 Glory

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest office said Thursday that wildfire readiness and response will remain unchanged despite a reorganization ordered in March. USFS personnel recently helped contain a 60-acre fire on Buzzard Mountain — one of 42 active wildfires nationwide.  97.5 Glory
