  • The home of Nathan and Katie Crumley won the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce Residential Beautification Award in Hall County, recognizing the transformative landscape design by Danny Syfa’s team and the couple’s ongoing upkeep after renovations.  97.5 Glory
  • On Saturday, May 2, thousands of rubber ducks took part in the 28th annual Duck Derby at Lake Lanier Olympic Park. Hosted by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier, the event featured games, bounce houses, a petting zoo, face painting, food trucks & live music.  The Gainesville Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rock Station kicked off the First Friday Concert Series on Friday, May 1 in downtown Gainesville. The series will run every first Friday from May through September (bringing local musicians to the area).  The Gainesville Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Gainesville have risen to $3.85 per gallon this week—a 23-cent increase from last week, according to AAA. Nationally, prices have climbed to $4.44 per gallon, a 27-cent jump as oil exceeds $100 per barrel amid ongoing concerns in the Middle East.  97.5 Glory
  • The Gainesville Inland Port will open today after eight years of planning. Operated by the Georgia Ports Authority, the facility will connect northeast Georgia with the Port of Savannah and save 600+ roundtrip highway miles per container, though some locals worry it may bring more industrial growth nearby.  97.5 Glory

  • Jefferson Fire Department advises residents to build emergency kits, review family plans, and know evacuation routes as National Hurricane Preparedness Week begins today and runs until May 10 + hurricane season starts on June 1.  AccessWDUN
  • Gainesville’s downtown paid parking program begins today—after three months of planning by the city—while lane closures on Georgia 400 in Forsyth and Fulton counties will be in effect from Tuesday night until Friday morning to add new express lanes.  97.5 Glory
