At its 118th Meeting & Gala Thursday night, the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce awarded honors to Murray Plastics for Small Business & LaserCraft Technologies for Family Business and installed officers: Melissa Tymchuk as Chair, Tate O’Rouke as Chair-Elect, Nick Bruner as Treasurer & Tim Evans as President & CEO.

State Schools Supt. Richard Woods named four local schools as AP Schools of Distinction, including Gainesville High School and three in Hall County (Cherokee Bluff High, Flowery Branch High, and North Hall).

It honors schools with 20% AP participation and 50% scoring 3 or higher.

Lanier Technical College held its 60th Commencement Ceremony Friday at the Hall County campus quadrangle, where 459 graduates received certificates, diplomas, or degrees and benefited from a Warranty to Employers (offering free retraining if needed).

Today, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers monitors drought conditions affecting water levels at Lake Lanier and other local reservoirs.

Officials advise boaters to wear life jackets and be cautious as below-normal rainfall has led to low streamflow (conditions are expected to persist through the summer).

Lake Lanier has been named one of 12 national sites for a community conservation initiative by the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics (a Colorado-based group that teaches responsible outdoor practices).

Several new commercial developments will be reviewed by the Hall County Commission on May 28.

Proposals include a warehouse and distribution complex at 866 Gainesville Highway, an Agrientertainment venue on 17 acres along Lanier Islands Parkway, and a boat/RV storage facility planned on Sardis Road.

Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville employs a family of nurses as twins Mary Kate Harris and Mckenna Roberts join their mother Sarah Rushton in the labor and delivery unit.

They work night shifts and plan to celebrate Mother's Day together, showing a strong family bond.
