  • Apalachee High School will hold a payback event on Saturday with food trucks, bounce houses and Pro Football Hall of Famers to thank the Barrow Co. community for support after a mass shooting that took four lives. Gainesville also named winners for the Chicken Festival Scholarships and You’re the Reason Scholarships — Jackson Daniel earned $2,000 while Madeline Martin received $2,000 and other students got up to $1,500 — as part of its tradition of awarding children of city employees.  97.5 Glory
  • Gainesville’s trolley service returned for the summer season as Hall Area Transit expanded its fleet and routes—now offering a new Fair Street route and a shortened Glenwood/Riverside route to better serve downtown. The service will run on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. until Sept. 6 with the first pick-up at Kilwins on the historic square.  97.5 Glory

CRIME NEWS

  • A man and a woman arrested in Gainesville were charged with aggravated involuntary manslaughter for the drug-related death of 33-year-old Dean Kratochwill in Forsyth County (toxic fentanyl was found in his vehicle) following a March 3 overdose call (traffic stops linked them to the fatal drug deal).  97.5 Glory

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Northeast Georgia History Center will host the Adventures in Falconry family event on May 17 with a falconry demonstration by Georgia Mountain Falconry (10:00 AM to 2:00 PM). Visitors will also tour the exhibit halls and historic White Path Cabin, and admission is $8 for adults, $5 for children 6-10 and free for children 5 and under and History Center members.  AccessWDUN

  • HGTV names Gainesville as one of the country’s up-and-coming small cities due to its proximity to Lake Lanier & a growing poultry industry. The city of 45,000 sits 55 miles from Atlanta & offers many outdoor activities like boating and fishing.  97.5 Glory

FINANCE NEWS

  • Gas prices in Hall County fell by four cents to $2.87 per gallon compared to last Monday, and the statewide average dropped to $2.88. AAA reported the national average is now $3.13 while OPEC+ plans to increase output in June, a move that may drive prices lower further.  97.5 Glory

  • The Gainesville Police Department opened a downtown precinct in The National at 111 Green Street next to Courtyard by Marriott today — the facility will also serve as a recruitment center following recent local developments.  97.5 Glory
