- ➤ 39 women scholarship winners including Rachel Santafemia from North Georgia Technical College received award funding and toolkits, while two NGMC Gainesville nurses were honored with Nurse Excellence Awards — Hall County splash pads at Laurel and Butler parks will open May 23 at 10:00 a.m. 97.5 Glory
- ➤ A memorial service was held Monday at Browns Bridge Church in Cumming to honor three Georgia teens—Jackson Mobley, Charlotte Martin and Jaylyn Fehr—who lost their lives in a Florida spring break crash. - ➤ Charles Hosch, a Gainesville native, went missing while hiking on the Byron Herbert Reece Trail in Union County on Nov. 11 and search teams along with volunteers continue to comb challenging rocky terrain (using search dogs, drones, and mapping apps) for any trace of him. 97.5 Glory
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Holly Springs Baptist Church (7011 Holly Springs Road, Clermont) will celebrate its 200th anniversary on May 17 with dinner, a service, live music, wagon rides, horses, and tractors to honor 200 years of community gatherings. The Gainesville Times
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ All Hall County high schools that offer AP exams earned state honors when they were named 2026 Georgia Advanced Placement Honor Schools + some schools received more than one award. The honors were announced on Feb. 26, 2025 by the Hall County School District. The Gainesville Times
- ➤ Hall County Schools held its annual Night of Honor on Monday to honor retirees with a combined 2688 years of experience — naming Teacher of the Year at each of 37 schools. Heather Duren became the first at Everwood Elementary as the district celebrated dedicated educators. AccessWDUN
- ➤ Gainesville High School earned the Advanced Placement Honor School designation and AP Honor Roll (Silver level) recognition from the Georgia Department of Education, highlighting its academic success. The Gainesville Times
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Leave No Trace will support conservation at Lake Lanier through its 2026 Spotlight program, which partners local land managers with community groups to offer on-site education and restoration. The initiative will run from Sept. 11-13. 97.5 Glory
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Hall County Parks and Leisure will begin managing 11 recreational sites at Lake Lanier on May 18 through a partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
