  • Publix recalled a batch of its GreenWise Pear, Kiwi, Spinach & Pea baby food pouches after routine sampling flagged possible lead contamination, according to a news release from the chain.  The Gainesville Times

CRIME NEWS

  • On Friday at around 5:30 p.m., police responded after a gray Dodge Charger was seen on Cleveland Highway near Lakeland Road and a passenger allegedly brandished a gun—Gainesville man Jordan Bradley Roberts, who fled on foot, was caught by K-9 units while Atlanta man Timothy Brad Bingham was arrested for an open container violation and firearm possession as a convicted felon, with no injuries reported.  AccessWDUN
  • Authorities recovered a body from Lake Lanier Friday afternoon and identified it as missing kayaker Dustin Valencia from Cumming—investigation into his disappearance is continuing.  97.5 Glory

SPORTS NEWS

  • Defending champion Alisa Pressley of Cherokee Bluff will play for a second state title in the Class 3A finals at Highland Country Club in LaGrange as top teams from North Hall, White County, and Southeast Bulloch join the event over May 19-20. On the boys side, teams from Jefferson and North Hall will try for state titles while Gainesville did not qualify for the Class 5A finals—leaving local boys without a spot.  AccessWDUN
