EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lanier Technical College announced Mindy Glander as its new Vice President of Academic Affairs; she brings over 25 years of academic experience & will lead instructional programs, faculty development and student success across a seven-county area. 97.5 Glory
- ➤ Gainesville High School named David Wagner as its new principal + he is expected to start his role soon. The Gainesville Times
- ➤ School officials at Monday’s Board meeting gave updates on renovations across three district campuses; North Hall High School added space and will connect buildings, World Language Academy’s new elementary campus is under construction, and Flowery Branch’s car rider line is improved. - ➤ Hall County voters approved the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (ESPLOST) by a 59% vote, funding school upgrades, safety improvements, and technology. - ➤ A runoff is set for the Hall County Board of Education At-Large race as candidates (Joe Anglin, Carla Baker and Susan Aycock Smith) move forward after the initial vote did not produce a clear winner. Election officials will announce next steps soon. The Gainesville Times

- ➤ Gainesville officials announced that Lake Lanier Olympic Park will close its beach side temporarily starting Friday, May 22 at 5 p.m. — the boat ramp will remain open until Monday, May 25 at 11:59 p.m. as the park prepares for the NCAA Women’s Rowing Championships from May 29 to May 31.
