ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At 5:07 p.m. on May 21, a Commerce woman in a 2012 silver Chevrolet Silverado and a Habersham truck driver in a 2003 red Volvo tractor-trailer were seriously injured on State Route 365 northbound near Gainesville when the woman failed to yield during a left turn onto Whitehall Road — state route traffic was closed for about an hour and a half — and charges are pending.  97.5 Glory

CRIME NEWS

  • The Hall County Sheriff’s Office issued a BOLO on May 22nd for brothers Joshua Lorenzo Ventura, 14, and Alain Lorenzo, who ran away from a family member's house on Memorial Drive around 7:30 p.m.  AccessWDUN

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Hall County’s unemployment rate was 2.4% in April, down six-tenths from the previous month with its labor force ending at 109,019 (a drop of 350), while Gainesville saw employed residents rise to 106,397 and total jobs increase to 108,600. These figures show modest growth compared to both the prior month and last year.  97.5 Glory

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lanier Technical College announced a road project to build a new crossing over Ga. 365 that will include a flyover bridge and two roundabouts—these changes will create safer access for campus users. Construction is expected to begin in the coming months and take two years, with the campus entrance sign temporarily removed for utility work.  AccessWDUN
  • Hall County Schools named Cherokee Bluff Middle chorus teacher Emily Allison as its 2025–26 Teacher of the Year on May 22.  The Gainesville Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Public Safety said troopers will patrol roads to check for impaired drivers and hazards during Memorial Day weekend, which runs from Friday at 6 p.m. to Monday at 11:59 p.m. The patrols include Operation Observation on Friday—sponsored by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety—and drivers are urged to follow traffic laws and minimize distractions.  WSB-TV
  • State Senator Greg Dolezal said that after discussions with Congressman Rich McCormick, USACE reopened unmanned boat ramps on Lake Lanier—even though 11 recreation sites were closed—with officials set to assess traffic through the weekend. Local authorities will work with USACE to manage visitor flow as needed.  AccessWDUN
