  • Memorial Day weekend on Lake Lanier was calm with only a few minor incidents reported, and officials said there were no major disruptions. Visitors enjoyed a peaceful experience despite the low number of issues.  The Gainesville Times
  • Center Point will launch its first-ever Over the Edge urban rappelling event next month at the Downtown Main Street Parking Garage off the Gainesville square—designed to boost adrenaline, entertainment, and community spirit.  The Gainesville Times

CRIME NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Natural Resources released its final report on Memorial Day weekend boating activity from May 24 to May 26 & the report detailed 29 BUI arrests and several boating incidents across six regions, including four arrests and two incidents in Gainesville where one passenger sustained a right ankle injury.  FOX 5 Atlanta

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hall County Schools has named Tammy Herrin as the 2025 Exemplary ESOL Teacher — she is recognized for her work with middle school English language learners and will guide further support for them at her school.  The Gainesville Times
  • Three doctoral students & a professor in the Brenau University physical therapy program received state awards from the American Physical Therapy Association Georgia at a recent conference. Jessica Streuer, Trevor Bond, and Cassidy Hray were honored with the Founder’s Award, Student and Early Career Scholarship, and Clinical Excellence Award while Professor Heather Ross received the Outstanding Physical Therapist Award.  97.5 Glory

HEALTH NEWS

  • A routine health inspection last week gave Don Arepacho Venezuelan Fast Food at 2322 Browns Bridge Road an unsatisfactory score of 65 because inspectors found cross contamination risks—improper hygiene and unsafe food storage. The restaurant did not meet health standards and may need to make changes soon.  The Gainesville Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Chestatee graduate Luke Gaddis and West Hall graduate Stephen Clark earned First-Team All-American honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Division-II outdoor track championship on May 24 in Pueblo — Colo.  The Gainesville Times
  • North Hall's Bryant Young signed a scholarship on May 20 to run track and compete in cross country for Appalachian State — he is a distance triple crown state champion who worked hard to earn his spot.  The Gainesville Times
