  • A Gainesville man was accused of firing a shot at another driver on Athens Highway last month due to recent threats, according to the Sheriff’s Office.  The Gainesville Times
  • A Gainesville man was charged with aggravated assault after he intentionally backed his pickup truck into a moped and dragged the 62-year-old rider along Skelton Road at about midnight Wednesday+ the victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical while the suspect, Gregory Langston Motes, remains in jail.  97.5 Glory
  • Hall County deputies arrested Gainesville man Ricardo Guzman-Hernandez—31—for breaking into a home on Titshaw Drive at 10:20 p.m. Monday, assaulting a 43-year-old known victim and fleeing on foot before being caught near Industrial Boulevard and Mountaincrest Drive.  97.5 Glory

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Stacker ranked the 50 highest-paying jobs in Gainesville using May data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Family medicine physicians topped the list with median wages of at least $239,200 — the ranking lists roles from supervisors to technical experts to show wage differences in the local market.  WSB-TV
  • The Appalachian Regional Commission released its Fiscal Year 2026 economic status designations for 423 counties including Hall County, which is listed as Competitive and ranks second-highest among north Georgia counties while Chattooga is the only one classified as Distressed. The report states that 33 counties will see improvement as the number of distressed counties drops to 75 — the lowest count in 20 years.  97.5 Glory

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Billions of periodical cicadas have come out in parts of Georgia when the soil reached 64°F, starting Brood XIV’s 17-year cycle. They shed their soft skins and fly to trees—making a loud buzzing sound as males search for mates.  WSB-TV

  • The state held its first committee meeting on cancer care access at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville on May 29, as established by House Resolution 72 (the committee reviews quality gaps in rural areas). The study will propose recommendations to improve care for residents in rural areas.  The Gainesville Times
