CRIME NEWS

  • Hall County investigators identified Andres Mateo Hernandez — a Gainesville man aged 31 — after his body was found on June 1 and he was pronounced dead at the scene while an autopsy is pending.  AccessWDUN

CULTURE NEWS

  • Starting Thursday, June 19, the Gainesville Hall County Black History Society will host a free Juneteenth movie night at Gainesville High School’s The Hub at 6 p.m.—part of a three-day event. The celebrations will include a Royal Court Pageant for girls at the Civic Center on Friday and conclude on Saturday with a march from Peach State Bank at 2 p.m. followed by a festival.  AccessWDUN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gainesville City Schools and Hall County School District are partnering with Brenau University on a program to increase certified classroom teachers in local classrooms—one of four area school district efforts to address the teacher shortage in Georgia. This effort will focus on building a stronger teacher workforce for future classrooms.  The Gainesville Times

  • Main Street in Downtown Gainesville will be closed to traffic from Washington Street NE to Spring Street today from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. due to Police and Fire Games + related events scheduled across the city this week.  AccessWDUN
