- ➤ The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia is waiving all adoption fees for dogs and cats over six months old until July 19 as part of Bissell’s Empty the Shelter campaign. - ➤ Georgia DNR reported five people died on waterways this holiday weekend—three drowned and two died from other causes—and noted 19 injuries, 17 boating incidents and 40 boating under the influence citations, with a boat explosion on Lake Lanier and an electrical fire on Lake Hartwell also reported. - ➤ State officials said Saturday that Lake Lanier led holiday BUI incidents with 10 recorded cases — Lake Alatoona had 4 — and the state recorded 40 arrests with no serious waterway incidents reported on the day. 97.5 Glory

- ➤ Gas prices in Gainesville dropped to $2.87 per gallon today, a nickel lower than last Monday, according to AAA. The statewide average is $2.90 (down four cents since last week) and the national average is $3.14 (also down four cents). 97.5 Glory
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On July 3, the Gainesville Department of Water Resources stopped a sewer spill near Lake Lanier after a citizen reported a manhole discharge; crews cleared a grease buildup by 11:50 a.m., stopping an estimated 6,500 gallons of sewage. Officials then inspected the area, found no dead aquatic life, and applied lime for odor control — the Georgia Department of Natural Resources was notified — confirming that water quality met state standards. 97.5 Glory
