  • The North Georgia Community Foundation began accepting applications for its 2025 Community Grant Cycle today and will receive them until August 17 at 5:00 p.m.—this cycle funds nonprofits serving North Georgia—as part of its 40th anniversary celebration.  97.5 Glory
  • Gainesville Police Department has seen more complaints about unregistered door-to-door salespeople using aggressive tactics, and city officials said the law stops solicitations on private property with a no soliciting sign—residents are advised to close the door and call the police if someone refuses to leave.  AccessWDUN

CRIME NEWS

  • On July 11 in north Hall County, a deadly one-car crash on Oliver Mill Road—when 31-year-old James David Molton lost control of his 1996 Chrysler Concorde at 3:20 p.m. while under the influence of methamphetamine—resulted in the death of Gainesville passenger Caitlyn Butler and serious injuries to Cleveland resident Melisa Mann, with Molton now facing charges including first-degree vehicular homicide and other offenses.  97.5 Glory
  • Investigators with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office arrested two men—Jose Moz Casco, 44, and Meldo Escolto-Humberto, 56—from construction site thefts in Flowery Branch, including a June 29 burglary on Maple Brook Lane and July 7 and 10 thefts on Sherwood Square Drive, and both face charges of felony burglary and theft.  97.5 Glory

  • Gainesville officials plan to spend $4 million to renovate Chattahoochee Golf Club next year - the upgrades will improve the course facilities for local golfers.  The Gainesville Times

  • Local health experts warn that tick bites are rising as more residents spend time outdoors, a trend that increases the risk of Lyme disease if a tick stays attached beyond (36 hours).
