  • Mike Fisher spent six years walking Gainesville’s streets, meeting homeless people under bridges, in tents, & behind gas stations, and he is now honored statewide for his work.  The Gainesville Times

CRIME NEWS

  • A 21-year-old Gainesville man was charged with felony murder for the death of his 64-year-old wheelchair-bound neighbor at Walton Summit Apartments last year, police said.  The Gainesville Times
  • Gainesville police arrested 21 year old Logan Ryan Plumley after he allegedly pulled a gun on two men during a road rage incident—he also faced charges of felony murder, aggravated assault and simple assault for the killing of his disabled neighbor last November.  WSB-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Labor said Gainesville’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.1% in June from 3.4% a year ago with 105,780 employed residents and 108,800 available jobs. Local regions like the Georgia Mountains and Northeast Georgia saw similar declines although statewide unemployment rose slightly from May.  AccessWDUN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hall County school buses now have cameras that record drivers passing stopped buses—officials say the footage will be used to issue citations when classes resume on August 1.  FOX 5 Atlanta

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Lakeview Academy football team held its Media Day in Hall on July 23, 2025 — team segments will be available online for fans starting July 31.  The Gainesville Times
  • Lanier Christian's coach Joel Lulinski said the team stayed focused on leadership during spring practice as they prepare to defend their GAPPS state championship title this fall. The state champions are building a stronger culture and sharpening their skills in anticipation of a challenging high school football season.  AccessWDUN
