  • At about 3:30 Tuesday afternoon, Gainesville Fire Department responded to a fire at Carrington Park apartments and rescued one person from a smoke-filled second-floor unit who was taken to a medical center for treatment.  97.5 Glory

  • On August 6th, Northeast Georgia Health System saw its credit rating upgraded by Fitch Ratings and S&P Global Ratings — according to a press release issued then.  The Gainesville Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the State Board of Education voted to distribute $145.5 million in federal funds to Georgia school districts—allocating $991,326 to Gainesville City School System and $2.5 million to Hall County School District—to provide timely support for the upcoming school year. Superintendent Woods and the board acted quickly to approve all Title I through Title IV grants without any further delay.  97.5 Glory
  • Lanier Technical College, Athens Technical College and North Georgia Technical College became part of a transfer agreement with Western Governors University—an online university based in Utah—on August 6. The agreement between the Community Colleges of Appalachia and Western Governors University gives graduates, staff and faculty flexible pathways to earn online degrees and apply for up to $3,000 in scholarships—supporting continued education—without leaving local communities.  AccessWDUN
