- ➤ Daniel Thomas Davis parked his Ford F150 at Hardy Chevrolet on Aug.6 in Gainesville when he said he planned to buy a truck, and while fleeing from troopers in a chase he struck and killed 50-year-old Agustin Rivera before entering Hall County Magistrate Court yesterday to face charges including murder and felony fleeing or attempting to elude—Davis also faces DUI, theft by taking, driving with a suspended license, possession of marijuana, and other traffic violations. - ➤ The Norfolk Southern railroad crossing on White Sulphur Road near Sargent Road in northeast Hall County will be closed for maintenance, so drivers will use an alternate route (a realigned section of White Sulphur Road near the inland port) when the work begins. The Gainesville Times
- ➤ Alton Thornton will retire from the Jackson EMC Board after 14 years, and Mary Grimsley, a Gainesville educator and business owner, has been named to replace him. - ➤ North Hall beat Wesleyan 41-7 on Friday at the Brickyard with Wyatt Tumlin running 99 yards for a touchdown and gathering 221 yards on 10 carries - the Trojans recorded 609 yards on offense and held Wesleyan to 244 yards.
