COMMUNITY NEWS

  • INK, the children's museum, will hold a soft opening at its new Oakwood location on Thursday, August 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.—the museum moved from Gainesville after hosting over 72,000 guests last year and is now set on Main Street across from City Hall, with more exhibits to be added later.  AccessWDUN

CULTURE NEWS

  • Circus Delman was set up on Friday, Aug. 22 — it will perform at Lakeshore Mall on Pearl Nix Parkway until Sept. 1 in Gainesville.  The Gainesville Times
  • The Band Loula—formed by Logan Simmons and Malachi Mills—will perform in Gainesville at The Arts Council today. The country music group returns for a hometown show to draw local fans.  The Gainesville Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Peach State Health Plan and MCG at Augusta honored a new group of Peach State Scholars on August 23 by recognizing Gainesville’s Sadie Abernathy and Buford's Maddox Benedict for their work in medical studies. The Georgia Association of Broadcasters named WGTJ’s Nathan Latty as one of the 2025 Class of Rising Stars—an honor for his early promise in broadcasting.  97.5 Glory

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hall County is set to move the new East Hall Library project ahead when the county commission will discuss approving a contract with Carroll Daniel Construction at a work session on Monday. A final vote will be held on Thursday and the project is estimated to cost $4.4 million.  97.5 Glory
  • Hall County officials announced that the White Sulphur Road railroad crossing near Sargent Road will be closed from August 25 until August 30 for road resurfacing, and they will operate a single-lane controlled access point at the Blue Ridge Connector from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.—drivers are advised to use Cagle Road to State Route 365 during closures.  AccessWDUN

  • Cherokee Bluff’s high school football team scored twice in the first six minutes and held their lead to beat Apalachee in a Week-2 game in Flowery Branch on Aug. 22.  The Gainesville Times
  • West Hall coach Naji Lyon recorded his first coaching victory when his team beat Northview today. Ben Phelps led key plays—boosting the Spartans' momentum for upcoming games.  The Gainesville Times
  • Lakeview Academy's football team bounced back to beat Piedmont Academy as Ryan Kohler scored three touchdowns — two rushing and one receiving — to tie their season record at 1-1.  The Gainesville Times
  • North Hall beat Wesleyan on Aug. 22 in Gainesville as Dawson Gray, wearing number 88, played a key role in the decisive win. The team will face Cherokee Bluff on Aug. 29 as they continue their season.  The Gainesville Times
