Crews from Hall County Fire Rescue responded around 4 a.m. Sunday to a small house fire on Smallwood Road in south Gainesville and quickly confined the flames to an attic with no injuries while the Fire Marshal’s Office continues its investigation.

Doug Ivester of Gainesville won the Premier New Development Award at the Georgia Downtown Association Conference last week for the Gainesville Renaissance project— a building that completed the fourth side of the historic square and spurred hundreds of millions in downtown investment. City officials say the project blends homes and shops to bring new energy and growth to downtown.

North Georgia Technical College held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, August 29 to reopen Purcell Hall as the home of its Electrical Systems program.
