  • The North Georgia Community Foundation awarded $10,000 to the Gainesville Police Department for its Mental Health Clinician Program and the Gainesville Housing Authority hired Dr. Tammy Howard as Director of Resident Services. The city will end its summer concert series on Friday from 7:00 to 10:00 — with outlaw country artist Gregg Erwin Band headlining downtown.  97.5 Glory

  • Georgia's Lottery Corporation said no ticket matched all six numbers in Saturday's drawing, which left the Labor Day Powerball drawing with an estimated jackpot of $1.1 billion. The drawing used numbers 03, 18, 22, 27, 33 and a Power Ball of 17, leaving the prize open for players.  AccessWDUN

  • Gas prices in Gainesville dropped two cents to $2.86 this week — while statewide prices held at $2.89 and national prices rose to $3.21 after flooding at BP Whiting Refinery led to a several-day shutdown.  97.5 Glory

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Lanier Technical College’s Hall County campus on August 26, 95 adult learners earned their high school equivalency diplomas in person. The college also named Josh Bennett from Forsyth County as the 2026 Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education Student of the Year—he will now compete statewide against top EAGLE students.  AccessWDUN

  • High school football saw strong play this weekend as North Hall won a tough game and Jackson County earned its spot while Gainesville's Nigel Newkirk impressed with three straight 100-yard rushing nights—raising hopes for the season.   • Friday night high school football ended with North Hall defeating Cherokee Bluff as Smith McGarvey recorded 124 yards and two rushing touchdowns, and Gainesville beat Westlake 42 to 14.
