  • Las Costas Nayaritas Mexican Seafood Bar — a restaurant with Duluth roots — will open soon in the former Jekyll Brewing space along the Midland Greenway in Gainesville. The new eatery is expected to bring fresh dining options to the local scene.  The Gainesville Times
  • Kroger’s Atlanta Division announced new details for its Oakwood Marketplace store at 4050 Millside Parkway ahead of Tuesday’s groundbreaking—this $49.2 million project spans over 123,000 square feet and will open next fall with features like a Starbucks kiosk, sushi kiosk, and full-service pharmacy with drive-thru.  97.5 Glory

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • GDOT updated on the 3.55-mile Sardis Road Connector project, which links Dawsonville and Dahlonega Highways. Work will begin Friday on a permanent driveway at Chestatee Academy—designed to reduce congestion at school start and end—and it will open next Monday.  97.5 Glory

  • Mudassar Ahmed, MD, recently joined the Gainesville-based Georgia Heart Institute as chief cardiology officer & he will lead clinical oversight while continuing to treat patients locally.  97.5 Glory

SPORTS NEWS

  • Area high school football teams turned in strong plays on Friday night in Week 3. Gainesville beat Westlake 42-14 — Nigel Newkick rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns while other schools posted key performances.  AccessWDUN
  • Three high school football games will be broadcast live this week as part of Week 4's radio lineup — matchups include Roswell at Buford, East Forsyth at Chestatee, and North Hall at East Hall — with a total of 16 contests scheduled as reported Tuesday, September 2.
