The Gainesville Parks and Recreation Foundation has been named a finalist for the Levitt Music Series Grant that will offer up to $40,000 a year over three years to support free concerts in public spaces.

Public voting to choose the grant recipient ends September 15—ensuring community input in the selection process.

Four tickets for Saturday night’s Powerball drawing will pay $100,000 each after being sold in Georgia—one sold at the Shell Food Mart in Flowery Branch and another purchased online by a Gainesville resident.

David Bach, a newly-graduated state trooper from Barrow County, was assigned to the Gainesville post after finishing 34 weeks of training at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center — he now serves with the Georgia State Patrol.

Today at 3:00, the Hall County Commission meets at the government center to review rezoning applications for two industrial sites and two subdivisions—county planning staff recommended denying a rezoning for an industrial park in the 5400 block of Winder Highway and approved applications for a 700-unit housing development and a 323-unit mixed residential project.
