BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bend Bioscience, a Gainesville drug company, is undergoing a $20M expansion and is expected to add new jobs. The company will grow its operations — which may boost local business and give more work to residents.  The Gainesville Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Gainesville Police responded Friday night to 854 Davis Street when an 18-year-old was shot in the leg and buttocks over the weekend—he was taken to NGMC in stable condition.  97.5 Glory

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Sept. 5, the Southeast Pace Foundation and Kubota Manufacturing donated funding and a new Kubota tractor to Lanier College and Career Academy’s Agriculture program—equipment that gives students hands-on practice with modern machinery. The partnership that began in February supports agricultural education and will help prepare students for future careers.  AccessWDUN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A bill passed in the U.S. House includes two provisions affecting Lake Lanier; one would stop the Corps of Engineers from using federal funds to close campgrounds and the other allows lawful carry of firearms on its land (Rep. Rich McCormick proposed the measures). Lawmakers expect these actions to help keep Lanier parks open and preserve recreational areas.  97.5 Glory
  • A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Sept. 23 at 2:30 to start construction on the Pond Fork Sewer Extension Project that will add about three miles of sewer line along Athens Highway. The public event — held at Eskimo Cold Storage’s Building 2 on 3001 Athens Highway — is funded by ARPA and SPLOST with work expected to finish next fall.  97.5 Glory

SPORTS NEWS

  • High school football games were delayed on Friday due to weather, yet strong offensive plays brought energy to week 4. Rabun County running back Reid Giles led with 424 total yards including three rushing touchdowns and one kickoff return touchdown—his effort set him apart.  AccessWDUN
  • Monday's softball slate featured Buford taking on Cherokee Bluff in Flowery Branch in a matchup of state runners-up from 2024 with top-ranked Lady Wolves holding a 10-0 record against fifth-ranked Lady Bears holding a 6-2 record. Lumpkin County hosted North Oconee as it aimed to extend its five-game winning streak while other games across northeast Georgia were also played.  AccessWDUN
