COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A pickleball complex under construction off Thurmon Tanner Parkway in Flowery Branch will open by early 2026 — slightly later than originally projected.  The Gainesville Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Singer Lee Greenwood—known for his signature song 'God Bless the USA'—will perform in Gainesville soon.  The Gainesville Times
  • At a luncheon held Sept. 9 at the Gainesville Civic Center, Cherokee descendants shared hidden histories that show their influence on Hall County's culture, history and natural environment. The event was sponsored by the Redbud Project — it also highlighted evidence of Cherokee presence at Linwood Nature Preserve.  The Gainesville Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce will host a job fair today at the Gainesville Civic Center (fall opportunities) to connect local job seekers with employers. The event will support hiring for upcoming fall positions.  97.5 Glory

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Justice Department announced that Norfolk Southern and Amtrak settled a dispute over delays on the Crescent Route that serves Gainesville twice daily. As part of the settlement, Norfolk Southern must now give Amtrak trains priority—train its employees accordingly and keep records on delays—to help reduce future problems for passengers.  97.5 Glory
  • A Dawson County attorney filed a lawsuit on Aug. 18 against Hall and Dawson counties—he claimed he was owed nearly $85,000 for unpaid work representing indigent clients in Juvenile Courts during an ongoing audit.  The Gainesville Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Top-ranked Lady Bears built a five-run lead in the first inning + held off a rally by the Lady Jaguars at Cherokee Bluff in a game against Seckinger.  The Gainesville Times
  • Today, the Cherokee Bluff Lady Bears defeated East Hall 15-1 as Quinn Kiewert had three hits — North Hall also earned a region win.  The Gainesville Times
  • Cherokee Bluff linebacker Connor Cook recorded 10 tackles, including a tackle for loss and a sack, caused a fumble, broke up a pass and blocked a punt during the win over Habersham Central on Aug. 28. His play set the tone early for the Bears and earned him the Defensive Player of the Week title in Gainesville—recognizing his impact on the field.  The Gainesville Times
  • The GHSA is reviewing game delays and will set a firm cutoff time for high school football games that run late—this follows the disruptions seen in the Chestatee versus East Forsyth match on Sept 5 in Gainesville. Officials plan to announce the new rule soon to prevent extended game times.  The Gainesville Times
