  • A Gainesville woman punched a gator today to save her puppy when the animal got too close—she acted quickly to protect her pet.  WSB-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brenau University’s Physician Assistant program earned continued accreditation from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education — the program was established in 2020 and its first class graduated in 2023, and it will not be reviewed again until 2035. The renewed accreditation lets the program focus on serving the medically underserved with a special emphasis on behavioral health in Northeast Georgia.  97.5 Glory

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The planning board will review an application for a data center in southern Hall County on Monday—an application that the planning commission tabled at the applicant’s request earlier this month. Opposition to such centers has grown statewide due to concerns over high energy and water use, while supporters say they boost economic growth and security.  97.5 Glory

  • North Hall’s Summer Muxlow won the Warpath Invitational on September 13 in Canton — marking her third win this season.  The Gainesville Times
  • Riverside Prep lost its football game to Athens Christian as Shaka Rorie had three touchdowns and three interceptions for the Eagles.  The Gainesville Times
  • North Hall defeated Chestatee on Sept. 12th in the Region 6-3A opener as senior Justin Allen rushed for three touchdowns—boosting his team in a game played in Gainesville.  The Gainesville Times
  • The Class 5A No. 3 Red Elephants rallied from a two-score deficit but Carrollton's 21 straight points — scored in the final 9:11 — led to their defeat at City Park Stadium on Sept. 12.  The Gainesville Times
