  • Gainesville will host its first Green Street Santa Sprint on December 7 during the Christmas on Green Street celebration—runners will wear green Santa suits and complete a one-mile route as thousands watch. Registration is now open for this festive event.  97.5 Glory

  • Families in Gainesville will join a special event celebrating Hispanic Heritage today—A Family 2 Family Special will feature cultural traditions and community stories.  WSB-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • North Georgia Technical College in Clarkesville announced today the summer Honor Roll and President’s List students who earned GPAs of 3.5 or 4.0 while taking at least 12 credit hours; the list includes full-time students from various counties—such as Gainesville—who met the strict academic criteria. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hall County Tax Commissioner Darla Eden reported that a random audit begun in January flagged 351 school tax exemptions given with outdated records, costing about $2.3 million in tax revenue—officials plan to review reassessment procedures to recover roughly $1.4 million in back taxes.  WSB-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Northeast Georgia Health System recently honored 183 volunteers at its annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon held at Braselton Civic Center — the event recognized more than 115,000 service hours over the past 12 months. Donna Hill received the Joan Kosmala Volunteer of the Year Award for 15 years and 2,600 hours of service while Linda Miller and Susan Wentz were also recognized for their dedication.  97.5 Glory

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A proposal to build a 900,000-square-foot data center in Hall County was delayed after residents and planning officials voiced concerns about its impact on local power and water supplies.   • Grading is underway at Avilla Friendship Trails in South Hall as developers prepare for a 129-home rental community—construction will continue as plans progress.  The Gainesville Times
