GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gainesville's Chicken Ordinance, enacted 64 years ago, requires fried chicken be eaten with fingers and was listed as one of the 16 weirdest laws in the country—its inclusion noted by HowStuffWorks.  97.5 Glory
  • Hall County Commission will consider spending $1.07 million to purchase three new ambulances from Ten-8 Fire and Safety at Monday’s work session—this decision comes as part of efforts to improve public safety. The commission will also review two rezoning proposals on Old Cornelia Highway—one for 13 acres for heavy-equipment storage and another for 1 acre for a sign manufacturing and printing business—at its regular meeting on Thursday.  97.5 Glory

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA approved Forzinity on Friday, September 19 as the first treatment for Barth syndrome, a rare illness that affects energy production in cells. A local Hall County family said the drug improved their daughter’s heart function and energy levels—raising hope for other patients with rare diseases.  AccessWDUN
  • NGMC Gainesville’s Cancer Services team completed its 500th Ion robotic bronchoscopy—a minimally invasive procedure that lets doctors reach small lung nodules. NGMC Braselton began offering the same procedure in January to expand cancer care options.  97.5 Glory

SPORTS NEWS

  • Flowery Branch's football team rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Eastside on Sept. 19 by making key defensive adjustments — timely offensive plays helped the Falcons improve to a 4-1 record.  The Gainesville Times
  • Riverside Prep dominated Heritage Christian as Eagles quarterback JJ Blackwell scored in the end zone four times—showing his standout performance on the field.  The Gainesville Times
  • On Sept. 19, 2025, sixth-ranked North Hall posted more than 400 passing yards to beat White County—pushing the Trojans to a 2-0 record in Region 6-3A.  The Gainesville Times
  • The fifth-ranked Gainesville high school football team rallied in the second half to beat Lanier in the region opener. Nigel Newkirk and Dwight Lewis led the running attack—helping secure a strong win for the team.  The Gainesville Times
  • Connor Shaw (a Flowery Branch grad and former South Carolina quarterback) was discharged from the hospital after a recent health scare, and his father updated his condition Saturday night.  The Gainesville Times
