- ➤ Steve Mickens, head of the Lanier Boys & Girls Clubs, was named state CEO of the Year by the Georgia Boys & Girls Clubs Council and Hall of Fame. The Fall Garden Expo will be held Friday and Saturday at Chicopee Woods Ag Center and Gainesville’s annual Fall Fly-In will take place on Oct. 25 at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport from 9:00 to 3:00. 97.5 Glory
- ➤ The Silver Lining Project and The Insurance Source have organized the Golden Years Prom for community members 55 and older. The free event will take place on Oct. 11 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Community Room in downtown Flowery Branch at 5410 Pine Street and will offer dancing, a live DJ, refreshments and free hair and makeup services from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.—reservations are required. - ➤ Game wardens from Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources rescued a fisherman whose boat got stuck in a tree on the Oconee River—officials said the rescue was completed quickly. WSB-TV

- ➤ Gas prices in Gainesville increased by three cents per gallon to $2.87 over the past week — the statewide average went up to $2.90 while the national price climbed to $3.18. 97.5 Glory
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Hall County Parks and Leisure is temporarily closing parts of the East Hall, Mulberry Creek and North Hall community centers for long-term improvement upgrades over the next two weeks. At East Hall, the walking track is closed today until September 28, the fitness room until September 29, and the gym until October 6—while the gyms at Mulberry Creek and North Hall will reopen on October 4 and 5 respectively. - ➤ The Lula Planning Commission will hold a hearing on Oct 7 to consider a Revive Land Group request to rezone 32.5 acres on Athens Street for a 100-lot development that features trails, a park, a community area, a pool, a cabana and a dog park — the proposal also asks to reduce the side setback from 10 feet to 7.5 feet. 97.5 Glory
