- ➤ Officials are studying a plan to extend the Highlands to Islands multi-use trail from the University of North Georgia campus in Gainesville to Flowery Branch — a final alignment may be set this fall. The Gainesville Times
- ➤ Hall Co. Animal Shelter posted on Facebook that its shelter is dangerously full and needs adopters, fosters, and rescue partners to help save cats + address the crisis. The shelter welcomes walk-ins from 9 AM + 4 PM with no appointment needed to meet available cats. 97.5 Glory
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Georgia's voucher program Promise Scholarships helped over 8,000 students leave low-performing public schools for private schools linked with Christian groups — including several in Hall County. $5.4 million of the $7.1 million was allocated to 286 schools in 85 counties and nine cities while $1.7 million went to companies selling school supplies. 97.5 Glory

- ➤ Organizers of the 'No Kings' movement announced over 20 planned protests across Georgia on Oct. 18, including in Gainesville, Chamblee, and Marietta (each event will have its own form from flag-waving rallies to marches). - ➤ Gainesville native Bob Norton announced his intent to run for City Council Ward 1 to fill the seat left by Danny Dunagan—who stepped down due to health issues. Norton said he will focus on smart growth and improved infrastructure ahead of the non-partisan special election set for next May. 97.5 Glory
- ➤ State Representative Emory Dunahoo announced on WDUN’s The Martha Zoller Show on September 24 that he will retire at the end of his term in 2026; he said his decision follows years of service and health challenges and he hopes new leadership will serve his district in Hall & Jackson counties. - ➤ Hall County Government and the Library System will break ground on the new East Hall Library on Oct 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the East Hall Community Center—3911 P Davison Road in Gainesville. The nearly 9300 square foot library will include thousands of books, high-speed internet, public computers, and a makerspace and is expected to be finished by Fall though delays may push back completion.
