  • The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce announced the Fall 2025 Business Beautification Award winner, El Salvador Restaurant at 857 Bradford Street in Gainesville — owner Ronald Araujo was honored for the extensive renovation that improved the restaurant’s appearance. CRIME NEWS

  • Truett-McConnell University gained national attention after its board removed the suspended president last week for allegedly ignoring sexual abuse issues, and the college added a full-time Title IX coordinator (to help ensure stronger protections) today.  97.5 Glory

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Gainesville fell four cents from last week to $2.84 a gallon, with the statewide average at $2.87, according to AAA. AAA said the drop is partly due to fall gasoline blends that cost less to produce—storm activity in the Gulf may affect prices if refineries are hit.  97.5 Glory

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Gainesville will resume its biweekly leaf collection service from Oct. 6 through Jan. 30 (2026) and residents must follow guidelines like placing leaves in long, narrow piles to keep roads clear. The service is divided into Zone 1 (west of Thompson Bridge Road) and Zone 2 (east of Thompson Bridge Road and across the lake) with specific dates for each.  AccessWDUN
