  • Roxanne Woods recently opened Hoopla at the Hive in Gainesville— a consignment store that sells vintage furniture and home décor. The shop sits on Dawsonville Highway among fast food restaurants and big box stores and offers a unique selection for local shoppers.  The Gainesville Times
  • The daughters of late philanthropist Peggy Walters filed a lawsuit against Willis Investment Counsel—Gainesville’s largest investment firm with an office at 710 Green Street—over concerns about the management of their mother’s legacy.  The Gainesville Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Northeast Georgia Health System’s five hospitals generated over $7.8 billion in economic impact in 2023, sustaining more than 23,000 full-time jobs and providing over $76 million in charity care while boosting local businesses and supply chains. A Georgia Hospital Association report shows that NGHS spent over $2.1 billion in direct expenditures—supporting regional growth.  97.5 Glory

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hall County Schools reported an increase in its four-year graduation rate this year. West Hall High and East Hall High made significant improvements—boosting overall performance for students in the county.  The Gainesville Times
  • Hall County Schools’ average SAT score dropped slightly, though it still beat state and national averages — North Hall High had the highest scores while East Hall High had the lowest — according to district data.  The Gainesville Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Atlanta recorded its fifth driest September with only 0.16 inches of rain while Gainesville got 2.58 inches—1.38 inches below normal, and the area now enters its driest month. The National Weather Service forecast today shows sunny skies with highs in the low 80s and little chance of rain this week.  97.5 Glory

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A recent government shutdown has had little local impact for most residents as services such as mail and airports keep operating—though WIC benefits might be affected if federal furloughs continue.
