ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ NGHS produced over $7.8 billion in economic impact by generating nearly $7.65 billion in revenue and supporting more than 23,000 full-time jobs in Gainesville, Braselton, Barrow, and Lumpkin counties — it also provided over $76 million in charity care in 2023 for patients who could not afford their bills. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Gainesville High School reported another significant jump in its average SAT score this year, showing clear progress from past efforts. The Gainesville Times
- ➤ Nine Brenau University students will receive scholarships from the Ivester Foundation for the 2025-26 academic year—seven are first-generation nursing majors and two are awarded endowed scholarships in accounting and psychology. The awards support local students from Hall County. 97.5 Glory
- ➤ East Hall High School junior Laura Davis was selected to join State School Superintendent Richard Woods’ 2025—26 Student Advisory Council—she will give feedback on state policies, act as an ambassador for Hall County, and participate in service projects that help local schools. Her role will let students have input in classroom decisions and shape future education plans. The Gainesville Times
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Glory 97.5 starts its weekly Northeast Georgia Leaf Watch this fall—updates will give current details on changing leaves with help from the Georgia Forestry Commission. The commission says trees like black gum, dogwood, and maples are showing early changes and peak color is expected around the end of October to early November. 97.5 Glory
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gainesville issued 148 building permits last month for projects costing $10.9 million — 67 permits were for residential work including 29 new single family homes expected to cost $6.6 million and three for additions and repairs, while one new and nine commercial permits were also granted. 97.5 Glory
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Northeast Georgia Health System said it is not accepting United Healthcare coverage because stalled negotiations over billing agreements for the 2026 plan year mean patients will be treated as out-of-network — the system said it is informing patients ahead of fall open enrollment. WSB-TV

- ➤ Fifth-ranked North Hall — led by standout Hadleigh Crumley — rallied late on Sept. 11 in Gainesville to overcome a three-run deficit against Pickens and claim first place in Region 6-3A. The Gainesville Times
- ➤ Seventh-ranked Cherokee Bluff lost to No. 1 Jefferson on October 2 at Yona Park in Flowery Branch — Peyton Davis was seen trying to apply the tag at the plate during the game, with the effort captured by photographer Bill Murphy. The Gainesville Times
