  • Gainesville’s Bloom Enterprises has hired Dr. Christina Iyengar as its new Executive Director to lead programs for people with disabilities and their families.   • Former teacher Amy Kerr is running for the District 2 seat on the Gainesville school board today—she answered five questions about literacy, attendance and teacher morale—while business owner and coach Trey McPhaul is her opponent.  The Gainesville Times
  • The Gainesville City School Board received the Georgia School Boards Association’s 2025 Exemplary Board Recognition, the highest honor for school boards, for its effective governance and commitment to student success. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hall County residents in Gainesville will be able to dispose of up to 10 tires free of charge at the Hall County Landfill on Oct. 16 and Oct. 17—tires must be 20 inches or less and tractor-trailer, farm, and agricultural tires are not accepted. The program, funded by a grant from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, aims to prevent abandoned tires from cluttering roadways.  WSB-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Developers of a proposed $1.2B data center in South Hall won approval on October 7 after the Hall County Planning Commission recommended the project for a third time on a 119-acre site on O’Kelly Road—the plan will now move to the county commission for a final vote.  97.5 Glory
  • The Hall County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to suspend the Planning and Zoning Commission after a complaint said some members broke the Open Meeting Act. The board said all new planning applications—like rezoning, special uses, permits, and variances—will be handled by it until a third-party investigation is finished.  AccessWDUN

  • The Georgia High School Association voted Monday to change high school playoffs so that the best 32 teams statewide are now chosen using a new ranking formula — this system, first tried in 2024, aims to give the best teams a fair chance in the postseason.  97.5 Glory
