- ➤ Today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the City of Gainesville hosts its 20th Annual Chicken Festival at Lake Lanier Olympic Park Plaza where 17,000 pounds of freshly cooked chicken is served. Attendees must buy a wristband for sample tastings and can take a free shuttle from New Horizons Lanier Park starting at 10:45 a.m. — the event includes a wing-eating contest and awards for top pitmasters. - ➤ The Gainesville Water Resources Department said water will be shut off early next week on Skyview Drive, Skyview Place, Skyview Lane and 1310 Dawsonville Highway from 8:00 p.m. Monday to 5:00 a.m. Tuesday for main improvements—railroad crossing work will close streets at Georgia Avenue on Tuesday and Hancock Avenue on Wednesday. 97.5 Glory

- ➤ The Cherokee Bluff Lady Bears swept Mary Persons in straight sets and earned a quarterfinal match with North Hall on Wednesday in Gainesville. The Gainesville Times
