- ➤ Downtown Gainesville is hosting the 2025 SQUAREcrow display with around 60 installations available for viewing until Oct. 31 — voters will choose the winning SQUAREcrow on Facebook for a $150 gift certificate to a downtown business. 97.5 Glory
- ➤ Gainesville’s annual Fall Fly-In will take place Saturday at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport from 9:00 to 3:00—organized by Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 611, it will display static aircraft without flight shows. Also on Saturday, Trick or Treat on the Trail will be held at Midland Greenway from 3:00 to 5:00—offering free candy, games, contests, a screening of Hocus Pocus at 5:30, and a drive for canned goods for the GA Mountain Food Bank. 97.5 Glory

- ➤ Gainesville City Schools Superintendent Jeremy Williams received a contract extension at the board meeting on Oct 20—his contract now runs until June 2028 and his salary is set at $260,000 with potential 3.5% annual raises if evaluations meet standards. AccessWDUN
- ➤ Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier held its annual Youth of the Year Celebration at Lanier Technical College in Gainesville last week for the 'Ignite the Future' event, where club members showcased artwork and performances. Jaemy Quito-Cruz repeated as Youth of the Year (first place) while Jariel Hernandez and Messiah Greaman earned second and third honors and awards were also given to Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier CEO Steve Mickens, Hogan Construction, and Michele Piucci. - ➤ The Red Cross is urging Gainesville families to heat their homes safely as temperatures drop—keeping space heaters three feet away from flammable items, plugging them directly into outlets, and testing smoke alarms monthly.
