- ➤ The Gainesville-based Georgia Mountain Food Bank said it is in crisis mode—SNAP benefits will not be issued next month if the federal shutdown continues, putting 687,000 households at risk. In its five-county service area, 12% of residents who depend on SNAP benefits, including seniors, children, and families, may soon face increased food shortages. 97.5 Glory

- ➤ Gainesville's Newtown Florist Club will mark its 75th anniversary next weekend at a gala at the Civic Center on Nov. 2 to honor its work in civil rights and environmental justice. Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith was named Sheriff of the Year and County Coroner Kenneth Cooper was named Coroner of the Year — Habersham County Chief Tax Assessor Joan Church retired after 57 years of service. 97.5 Glory
- ➤ The Hall County Board of Commissioners postponed a vote on a $1.2 Billion data center proposal on O’Kelly Road until December 11—this delay follows an investigative report that shows counties across the state taking different stances on data center regulations. 97.5 Glory

- ➤ New Horizons Limestone and New Horizons Lanier Park were named among America’s Best Nursing Homes 2026 by Newsweek. - ➤ Flowery Branch lost its high school football game to North Oconee on Oct. 24 when special teams mistakes allowed three touchdowns — the Falcons will need to win next week and hope for help to get a home playoff game. The Gainesville Times
- ➤ Riverside Prep ended its season with a win over King's Academy — two touchdowns from Jacques Chiller and Michael Omeh powered the Eagles to their best season since 2019. The Gainesville Times
- ➤ North Hall won the Region 6-3A championship by beating Johnson at Billy Ellis Memorial Stadium in Oakwood on Oct. 24 — they will wrap up the regular season against Dawson County on Oct. 31. The Gainesville Times
- ➤ No. 3 Gainesville lost to Roswell on Oct. 24 at City Park Stadium. The team will have a bye on the final night of the regular season and remains in the race for the region title. The Gainesville Times
- ➤ Cherokee Bluff's Lady Bears beat the top-seeded Lady Musketeers in a five-set match on Oct. 25—earning their first state finals trip—and will face Whitewater on Wednesday in Emerson for the 3A title. The Gainesville Times
